More Need for Water, More Evaporation

Higher temperatures also lead to more need for water, by people, livestock, crops, lawns, and ecosystems. Higher temperatures also increase evaporation from reservoirs, streams, and the ground.

“Higher air temperatures increase the rate of
evaporation, removing moisture from the soil
faster than it can be added by increased
precipitation, resulting in net soil moisture
declines for a large part of the Great Plains.”
