National Parks in Peril
In October 2009, RMCO released with Natural Resources Defense Council a report, National Parks In Peril: The Threats of Climate Disruption.
The report documents that climate disruption is the greatest threat ever to America’s national parks. The report identifies 25 national parks (shown on the map below) that are most at risk as human activities continue to change the climate. The report also includes 32 recommendations of actions specific to the national park system that can be taken, beginning now, to protect national parks and their resources from the effects of heat-trapping gases. And the report calls for national action to reduce those emissions, as ultimately the only way to protect our national parks is to bring about less climate change.
